The strong connection between the Jewish actress Tamara Stern and the character Lola Blau is at the center of this evening.
The most famous Viennese One-Woman-Musical, written by sharp-tongued cabaretist Georg Kreisler, tells the tragic and yet humorous story of a Jewish, Viennese actress and singer, forced to leave her country and escape Nazi-Austria in 1938. After being denied a permanent visa to Switzerland, Lola reaches the U.S. and gets her lucky break. A big star in America, she decides to return to Austria after the war, only to find that nothing has changed.
In light of the increasing trend towards the right all over Europe, but especially in Austria, the play and this very personal interpretation by Ernst Kurt Weigel and Tamara Stern are more relevant than ever.
